First Sergeant Liel Gideoni was killed in battle on the last day of Operation Protective Edge.

There is one thing that characterized Liel most of all, and that is the smile that never left his face. Liel loved life, but didn’t hesitate to give his life for all of us.

Liel was born and raised in the Jerusalem Katamon neighborhood, a devoted fan of the Jerusalem basketball team. He was always ready to help and assist anyone – and always with a beautiful smile.

Liel’s parents and family could not come to terms with the terrible tragedy, and despite being utterly broken and devastated, with the help of the Chabad house in the neighborhood, they decided to commemorate Liel in a very special way, which would let Liel’s smile carry on through hundreds and thousands of children every day.

Project Ten O’clock Meal, in liel’s name aims to make sure that no one, boy or girl in the schools left hungry. Unfortunately, there are a large number of children who don’t bring a sandwich for their ten o’clock meal at school. The main reason being difficult socio-economic situation of many families. Leaving a child hungry is something that should never be allowed to happen!

Each day, volunteer staff prepare sandwiches, paired with a soft drink, and are distributed from school principals in the neighborhood, to the hungry children. The sandwich is rich and nutritious. Every Friday with the sandwich a healthy candy is distributed in honor of Shabbat.

We have taken it upon ourselves to expand Liel’s smile and give more children a daily sandwich for their ten o’clock meal, and for this we need your partnership and help.

This is your opportunity and ours to give ten o’clock meals to more children who need it, strengthen the family and perpetuate Liel’s smile
